Deacon’s Corner “Faith and Courage”

By The Late Deaconess Carolyn Churchill

Faith and Courage

“Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight: yet I will look again toward the holy temple” (Jonah 2:4)

Jonah was swallowed by a fish. We shake our heads, when we read of Jonah’s time in the fish’s belly. How could he run from God? Didn’t he know how it might end for him?

Jonah let fear rob him of his faith in God. He chose to flee rather than to obey. His stay in the in the belly of the fish forced Jonah to fix his eye back on his Lord and take courage in the midst of his circumstances.

The world needs to see us living adventurous lives. Not hiding away in the shadows or shrinking away in fear. So take heart. Be of good courage when trial even of your own making come across your path.

Father, I take courage as I look to you. Amen
